Bas.: Masdevallia simula Rchb. f., Gard. Chron. 3: 8. 1875.

TYPE: It was discovered by Mr. Chesterton in New Grenada, and has already flowered twice in the Royal Exotic Nursery of Messrs. Veitch (holotype, W; drawing of type, AMES).
